Good 'Ol Massena 8/21/2017

Whew, another week has flown by! Many things have happened, and I don't remember most of them... haha missionaries are busy people. To start, last week, as we left the Library where we were emailing from, an older lady named Sylvia stopped us and asked if we were Mormons. We told her that we were indeed Mormons. She asked us if we had a hymnal, she listens to a lot of gospel stuff on the radio and doesn't like how they've modernized everything, because it takes away from what the music is all about. Anyways, she heard a song called "I am a Child of God" and asked if we knew about it. I thought for a second and golly gee I knew that song. We told her we could bring her a hymn book, she said she'd be happy to pay for it, we told her we'd trade her the hymn book for 20 minutes of her time where we could share a message. Anyways, later that week, we knocked on her door, and talked for quite a while. She shared a lot of her beliefs, and I swear she was rea...

The North Country 8/14/2017

Holy cow guys. I'm really here. A week ago I would've been sitting in class in the MTC, but currently I am sitting at the Library in Massena, NY. It's a poor, run down town that sits about 12 inches from the Canadian Border. If any of you smoke, like old (really old) houses, and have a crazy family situation, Massena is the place for you!      So. This has been quite an adventurous last few days. Tuesday morning we woke up at 2:50 AM, and were on a bus headed to the Airport at 3:00. We took off at 7:30, had about a 3 hour layover in Detroit, then flew to Syracuse. We were met by President Rogers and his wife, who took us to baggage claim. At baggage claim a total of maybe 15 bags came. So that left about 30 bags unaccounted for. I ended up with a suitcase full of garments and ties, but no clothes, so that was awesome. President Rogers handled that exciting situation while all us "Goldens" (not greenies) went to the vans and ate sandwiches from some Deli in Utica....

Final MTC Week 8/5/2017

Well, we played our last four square, had our last pizza night, went to our last Tuesday night devotional, went to the Provo temple for the last time, etc. Lots of lasts, but I'm so pumped for all the firsts that are coming in the next few days.      It feels like I got dropped off here just the other day, but I'm already coming up on 3 weeks, which is crazy. The other night I asked what the devotional was going to be that week, thinking it was Monday. Turns out it was Thursday night, we'd already had the devotional, and I had completely forgotten what day it was. The days just blend together here, time seriously flies.      Speaking of the devotional, we heard from Sister Jean Bingham, the Relief Society President. It was so cool. Afterwards we had a devotional review with our Branch President, President Samuelain. He is such a cool guy, and honestly that devotional review was the most memorable meeting I've been to since I got here....

Apostles, Flight Plans, and Bosoms Burning 7/31/2017

This week has been so cool. We started teaching our TRC investigators. It's about as close to real teaching as we can get here in this Hogwarts/Temple hybrid. And it is awesome. Our first lesson with our investigator, Lauren, was hard... We asked her how she was and to tell us a little bit about herself, and all she said for the whole lesson was "my name is Lauren" Sooooo that was rough. But we got through to her and she's read some of the BOM, asking good questions, and praying. Our other investigator, Karson, didn't really have an idea of what God was exactly, but believed he was there. He wanted to know how he could know for sure that He was. We asked him to read D&C 9:8-9, which mentions burning in the bosom as a way the Spirit is felt. He originally thought that was weird. But when we closed the lesson we asked him to pray, and after he closed he was a little choked up, and said "I get what that burning bosom thing means guys" It was so cool. Ho...

WEEK 1 (technically a half week, but it felt like a whole one, and we all lost track of what day it was.) 7/22/2017

Well I made it. First P Day. It's been pretty amazing. The first couple days we had some lonnnngggggg classes (I never fell asleep though) but yesterday we finally had an opportunity to teach an "investigator" (really our teacher role playing, but closer than anything we'd done yet) and it was so cool. My companion and I were able to go back and forth and use PMG, the scriptures, talks, analogies, etc. It was so cool and we both got pumped at the idea of doing that in the real world with real people. The classes during the day are very cool, wayyyyy better than seminary.       My "Residence hall" (can't call them rooms or apartments, too worldly) consists of me, Elder Glassey (my companion), Elder Nye, Elder Wheeler, Elder Johnson, and Elder Stone. Glassey is from Herriman, runs track, drove a PT Cruiser, and loves boating, we get along well. Elder Nye is from Morgan, he's a car guy and played DE for Morgan (knows Sam Fisher, didn't like him, b...
