I'm at the Hospital 5/14/2018
Well I don't have a ton of time this week, as I'm currently in the hospital. But I'll try to keep this interesting.
First of all, concerning the hospital visit. Not nearly as exciting as one would hope. I texted Sister Rogers to ask what allergy medicine she recommended, because my allergies have been crazy now that spring is here. New York has about a billion more trees than Utah, so allergies are a billion times worse. All I was expecting from Sister Rogers was a text that said, idk, "Claritin is best" or something. But instead, I was called by two doctors and so today we've driving an hour and a half to Oneonta to see Dr. Jones, the mission doctor. So, sadly, there's no exciting story involving a stab wound or anything, not yet at least.
The rest of the week, with the exception of Sunday, was kinda bleh. It's been slow, and we got dropped by the two investigators we were so excited about a few weeks ago... So that's just dandy. So pretty much all we had to do was Tract.
On Wednesday, for district meeting, I told people we would be wearing casual formal wear. We usually wear suits to meetings, but it was about 90 degrees and humid. So, we wore short sleeves, and wore our gold chains, and I cracked out the old bow tie. The district meeting was great, topic was "how to begin teaching." And lemme tell ya, if you don't understand this, ya don't understand missionary work. So we did a TON of role plays, and shared experiences, and it was a party.
On Thursday we got a text from the Dixon's, who are awesome. They're medical residents, and have 3 kids, and they've been having us over once a week for like 7 weeks now. Anyways, we had an appointment with them on Friday, and they texted us on Thursday to tell us something came up, and they couldn't do Friday. Now here's the difference between a good member and a great member that supports the missionaries. A good member sets up an appointment, and if something comes up, they cancel, and ya never hear from them again. A great member reschedules. The Dixon's are great. They rescheduled, and we feasted on tacos before we went to basketball. Now basketball at the church is interesting. I have no clue how people find out about it, but there's usually about 12-15 people there. Usually the same group. But this week, there were 7 people we'd never seen, and I think it was because they play professionally and are usually too busy. It was gnarly, but a lot of fun. And I didnt foul once, buuuuut that's only because there are no refs.
On Friday and Saturday we exchanged, and watched all our appointments fall through. Classic.
On Sunday, I burned through about a pound of smarties, passing them out to kids. And shared my scented markers and scratch and sniff stickers with the Beirdneau kids to keep them quiet. Sister Beirdneau told me I was going to a great dad, because my bag was packed better than hers was with entertainment for the kids #winning. The other wonderful thing about Sunday, is we got to chat with our fams. This was awesome. And it was so different from the first Skype call on Christmas. On Christmas there were teary eyes and it was incredibly hard to hang up. This time, it was all happy, more like "what's up dudes" and chatting. They sung happy birthday to me, and informed me that my Jeep, the one thing that's stayed true to me, hasn't been started since last October. So someone should go do that. But hey, it's always great to see the fam, and Skype call wise, I'm halfway done with my mission!
The only other news is that I did in fact have to pee in a cup today. So that's how life's going rn.
LOVE YOU ALL. THANKS FOR BEING MOSTLY AWESOME. TALK TO YA WHEN I'M 19.
